The steps that slide out under the side door to ease entry were rusty, so I decided to remove them and have them media blasted and powder coated, figuring that would hold up under foot traffic better than just paint. So off they/it came: Four bolts. Two are hidden under the aluminum threshold, which is easily removed. Those bolts are 2″ and were rusted solid to the point that getting them off required breaking/shearing them off. The other two, in the back, are much shorter and, from what I determined, could only be removed by drilling a 1″ hole over the top of each through the plywood subfloor. (Replacement of the floorcovering was planned anyway.) Doing that allowed me to access the heads with a 9/16″ socket and extension. After that, off it came and to the powder coat shop it went. A week or so later I got it back and reinstalled using new galvanized bolts and nuts. Much better appearance. <picture to follow>
